GARDAI SEEKING WITNESSES AFTER MAN (20) STABBED IN TOWN

- By HUBERT MURPHY A man (20) was stabbed on Patrickswell Lane and made his way to West Street.

GARDAI are hunting a man who stabbed a 20-year-old in the back following an incident on Patrickswell Lane in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The young man suffered two wounds to his lower back in the attack.

‘It is a very serious incident,’ Supt Andrew Watters stated this week.

The man was discovered on West Street and was treated on the scene before the emergency services arrived.

Gardai believe the incident was unprovoked and the suspect fled the scene.

However, CCTV has been sourced from a number of areas and when local businesses reopen this week after the bank holiday they will also be used to try and track down the attacker.

‘We are looking for witnesses and people who were in the vicinity of the incident to come forward to us,’ the superintendent stated.

The young victim, who is a Drogheda man, was removed from the scene by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital .

He was treated for what are believed to be non life threatening injuries.

‘We are treating this very seriously and would appreciate the support of the public in trying to solve this crime,’ Superintendent Watters added.

Those with information can contact the gardai in Drogheda station.
