RUARCAN O Gibne of Boyne AC is emerging as one of Ireland’s major middle distance prospects after capturing gold in a thrilling Irish Indoor Under-19 Final in Athlone.

Ruarcan was involved in a titanic struggle with nearest challenger Craig Giles from renowned Dublin club Clonliffe Harriers but had a little bit more in the tank in the home straight. The Drogheda schoolboy drove hard across the finishing line to snatch the National title in a fast time of 1min 57.92sec.

Amazingly, Ruarcan is also the reigning Louth 200, 400, 800 and 1500m champion, while other titles he currently holds include the North Leinster Schools 800 and 1500m and the Leinster Indoor 800m.
