Slane councillor slams vandals

-

Cllr Wayne Harding (above) has condemned as ‘idiotic’ the behaviour of a minority of young people who are tampering with life saving equipment along the river Boyne.

Cllr Harding said that, “I have had reports that some teenagers are treating the life saving equipment along the river Boyne as toys and play things.

‘ They were seen swinging the life bouys around their heads and throwing them into the river to their friends. These pieces of equipment are not toys they are essential life saving devices. I have reported the activity to the guards and ask that these people cop on. The life bouys were provided by Meath County Council in conjunction with Slane bridge anglers.

‘ They are there to save people’s lives and any damage caused to them could lead to a loss of life. This is disgraceful behaviour. We are entering into a period where people are quite entitled to bring their families to scenic bathing spots and enjoy the summer sunshine.

‘But everyone knows the dangers of water and the tragedies it can bring,’ he said.
