Ken calls time on Ireland
January 1996
KEN Sullivan has brought a glittering International career to an end and has now settled down to play locally with the Golden Discs/Bullets team in Drogheda.
Ken’s basketball career had taken him to Dublin after leaving school, playing in the Dublin league and from there he turned into a great servant for his country at International level.
‘It’s funny in a way that I played all my basketball in Dublin so now it’s nice to be able to give something back to my town And if some of the lads can learn from me than that will be nice too’, said Ken. ‘I probably won’t go International again. I had a couple of injuries and sicknesses that kept me out lately. I gave four years to Ireland. It was nice but now I have work and other things’, he commented.
He added: ‘A normal season runs from September to March and then the Internationals start from March through the summer so you really get no break. You spend your whole year training and every weekend with International duty and then you are expected to train more yourself so it takes up a lot of time’.
Ken has enjoyed his season so far with Bullets. ‘I was injured at the start so I’m only now really getting into it and I hope to stay injury free and get a good run with the lads. It would be nice to get promotion with the Bullets to the First Division.’
