SLANE CASTLE 5K

This years Slane Castle 5k trail run/walk in aid of St Patrick’snational school takes place this Sunday, June 10th, starting at 10am.

COUCH TO 5K

Rathkenny AC have started their first ever couch to 5k programme in conjunctio­n with Slane Pharmacy. This is a nine week fitness programme twice a week (Monday & Thursday 7pm to 8pm ) to encourage people to get out and get active, with the aim of completing in the club’s 5k

run on August 17th. Cost for the nine weeks is €50 which will cover

membership to the athletic club (to cover insurance) and will also allow you to continue training with the club for the rest of the year as well as entry into the Rathkenny AC 5k Road Race and Fun Run. This programme is open to everyone over 16 years of age who want to improve their fitness levels or even to just start out on the journey. All training will be given by experience­d coaches. Remember training within a group is great fun, focuses the mind and a great way to meet new people.

TABLE QUIZ

Slane GFC have a table quiz in the Boyne Valley Inn on Friday, June 15th at 9pm. The quiz is a fundraiser for the Slane U-14 Feile team as well as the other teams that Slane will host during the competitio­n.

MUSIC IN THE VILLAGE

The beautiful Slane Village Garden will be the setting for an afternoon of music on Sunday, June 17th. The Navan Silver Band will play an open air concert with proceeding­s getting underway at 2.30pm.

MANUFACTUR­ING MEATH

CAMPA SAMHRAIDH 2018

Slane GFC are running their annual Campa Samhraidh in conjunctio­n with Meath GAA for its tenth successive year from Monday, July 16th to Friday, July 20th. The camp takes place at Slane GFC pitch from 9.30 to 3pm each day and is limited to 70. The cost per child is €55. All

activities will be undertaken through Irish including drama, singing, art, Gaelic football and hurling. It also includes an excursion for

all the children. The camp will be supervised by fully qualified

teachers and staff provided by Meath County Board. To secure a place text your child’s name and date of birth to Michelle at 087 2858963.

LADYRATH SUMMER CAMPS

Ladyrath Lane Summer Camps are taking place again this year in July and are suitable for 4 - 12 year olds. The three day camps are from Tuesday July 10th to Thursday 12th; Tuesday July 17th - Thursday 19th;

Tuesday July 24th - to Thursday 26th, from 10am to 3pm each day.

Children will enjoy a fun-filled week in a very safe and outdoor environmen­t, including nature walks through the fields, gardening, woodwork, art & craft, games room, animal studies, mindfulnes­s, fitness and lots more. Limited to 30 places, the cost is €60 per child with discounts for siblings. Fully trained staff and fully insured.

SUMMER ART CAMP

Places are booking up fast. Following our very successful Art Camp last year, dates for this year are 2nd-6th July & 9th-13th July. This year St. Columcille’s Patron will be celebrated on June 9th at 3 pm at the location of where the Holy Well once was in Starinagh. FESTIVAL PREPARATIO­NS

Preparatio­ns are-under way for the Annual Festival. This year things have been changed around a bit. It will commence on 21st June with a Talk on Community and Drug Awareness. Lots of things happening for young and old, the final event will be a Cookery Demo on Thursday 28th. More details to follow next week. ‘Watch this space’

A TUS vacancy exists with Broomfield and District Residents Associatio­n. The Work Programme involves Care-taking duties in and around Teach Raithneach, as well as the maintenanc­e and up-keep of a number of amenities throughout the District. If you think you are eligible to participat­e in this Scheme, then please contact t on 087 2729154 for more informatio­n. Self referral forms are available. These allow you to self-refer to Meath Partnershi­p, the body who have responsibi­lity for implementi­ng the TUS Scheme in this area.

BROOMFIELD & DISTRICT WALKING GROUP

Broomfield and District Residents Associatio­n Walking Group have resumed their Tuesday evening walks 7 - 8 pm and will continue until September 2018. These are flat road, and off-road walks by lakes, rivers, and woodland. Male and female walkers of all walking abilities welcome to participat­e. There is a registrati­on fee €25. Sunday walks continue all year round, 12 noon- 1 pm.

SET DANCING NEWS

The Set Dance Ceili held last Thursday night in Teach Raithneach was a great success. The event enjoyed a very good attendance. Triskell served up the very best in music, while Fear an Ti, John gave the prompts in a timely fashion as usual. The very best of refreshmen­ts were enjoyed, and the usual good raffle was held. Members of the Sandpit Set Dancing Team that emerged successful­ly from the Louth Fleadh, and members of the Dunderry Set Dancers that emerged victorious from the Meath Fleadh were in attendance at the Ceili. Both teams will now compete in the Leinster Fleadh in Carlow in July. Best wishes to both teams.
