Councillors united in plea for information on murder
MEMBERS of the Ardee Municipal District Council have added their voices in a united plea for people with information into the murder of Cameron Reilly to come forward.
Addressing the meeting last week, Cllr Colm Markey said it was a ‘very, very hard situation for everyone in the community’, especially when the young man murdered ‘did no harm to anyone.’
He said the reaction and support shown to the family speaks volumes for the close knit community and he appealed for people to come forward with any detail. ‘ This is hanging over the community,’ he stated.
Cllr Liam Reilly said Cameron was a ‘quiet young man’ and at the moment ‘Irish society was not a nice place’.
Cllr Dolores Minogue was equally as vocal, remarking that Dunleer was under a ‘dark cloud’ but she thanked the role played by Fr Michael Murtagh in the town’s hour of need and guidance.
She said he had been a strength to the family .
Cllr Tom Cunningham asked people not to be afraid to come forward as the whole thing needed to be settled - ‘and settled quickly.’
Cllr Jim Tenanty also backed the comments while Cllr Pearse McGeough said it was a sad time for the family and community and he urged those with information to tell gardai. ‘ The longer it goes on, the worse it’s going to get.’
