Cllr Callan welcomes €655k for local roads
€665,000 is being made available to Co Louth in 2018 in 2019 for the upgrade and repair of regional and local roads.
The funding is part of a two year €23.1 million Community Involvement Grant Programme for regional and local roads, announced last week by The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross TD.
Independent Councillor Kevin Callan has welcomed the announcement, which will make a difference to local roads.
“Having made several representations to the minister about the state of roads in the county I’m delighted to see that funding has been allocated,” he told the Drogheda Independent.
“This is substantially more than the county has been receiving in recent years and is a sign that the issue of road repairs and maintenance is now starting to be taken more seriously at central government level”.
Applications were sought from local authorities for suitable schemes for inclusion and the response from local authorities was very positive with a large number of proposals received.
The average community contribution proposed is about 19%. The community input can be either by way of a financial contribution or works.
