Shock at death of GAA ace in Cyprus

NEWS of the tragic death of twenty year old Conor Morgan while on holidays in Cyprus sent ripples of grief through Dundalk at the weekend.

The talented GAA player from Seaview, Cnoc Na Mara, Golf Links Rd, Blackrock, died just hours after arriving in the holiday resort of Ayia Napa with a group of ten friends from Dundalk.

The only son of Paul and Blathnaid Morgan, Conor has been described as being ‘absolutely adored’ by all who knew him.

Tributes poured in for the DCU business student, after Dundalk Gaels posted of his death on their Facebook page on Sunday.

Local councillor John McGahon, who is a second cousin, said: ‘Something like this is every parent’s worse nightmare and is all the more tragic for happening in a foreign country.’

He said that the focus now was on trying to get Conor home and that the family were being offered assistance by the consulate in Cyprus.

‘Conor was absolutely and totally adored by his family, friends and everyone he came in contact with,’ stated Cllr McGahon. ‘Although he was only twenty years old, he was so mature and had such a wise head. He was a decent, well manner guy and for such an accident to happen is a tragedy beyond belief.’

‘He was so popular, not just with his own age group, but within the wider GAA community in Co Louth.’

Announcing his death, Dundalk Gaels described him as theri ‘great friend Conor ‘Morgie’ Morgan.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family Paul, Blathnaid and Sarah at this incredibly difficult and devastatin­g time.”
