Walk and Talk tour of the town

Community Historian Brendan Matthews will lead the first of this season’s Old Drogheda Society ‘ Walk n TalkS’ on Wednesday June 13th.

Beginning at St. Peters` Church in West Street at 7.30pm sharp, Brendan will outline the origins of the original Chapel which stood on this site and will relate the tale of an almost forgotten former Archbishop of Armagh who is interred under the High Altar.

The tour will then move down the ancient Stockwell Lane to the site of the former Haymarket overlookin­g the Boyne River, where Brendan will speak about the medieval archaeolog­y that was excavated here over 20 years ago. . All are welcome, and small donations to the Old Drogheda Society will be accepted.

On Wednesday June 20th , Liam Reilly will lead a ‘Walk & Talk from St Peter’s Square at the top of Peter Street to St Mary’s Bridge , an area that has a huge amount of of history and many great stories. Starting time 7.30 pm.
