DULEEK-BELLEWST’N 3-14 RATHKENNY 1-8

RATHKENNY’S hopes of making a quick return to the top flight suffered a blow following this loss in Duleek last Friday evening -a result that boosts the home side’s chances of promotion.

The visitors were understrength and produced very poor fare throughout, with their only score of the opening half a Jack Gore point on 20 minutes.

Steven Nolan opened proceeding with a point directly from the throw-in and the win was effectively secured in the first quarter after the home side opened up a 10-point cushion with two goals from Nolan and points from Shane Crosby and John Flood (two).

Three further points late in the first half from Micheál Dowling, Shane Townley and a John Flood free extended the lead to 12 at half-time as Rathkenny tallied 10 wides in that opening half.

A goal from the penalty spot from Brian Lenehan improved matters for Rathkenny, but Duleek-Bellewstown replied almost immediately at the other end, with Dowling pointing.
