Top Marks for Keith after sprint and long jump PBs

-

IT’S been a busy couple of weeks for Duleek athlete Keith Marks who performed strongly at events in Birmingham, Tullamore and Belfast.

Marks, formerly of Cushinstown AC but now competing for Clonliffe Harriers, began the outdoor season by competing in the European Clubs Championships Cup at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.

This year his Clonliffe team competed in the Premier Divi- sion having been promoted, and Marks scored points for his team in the long jump (season’s best 7.25m), high jump (1.90m) and 4x100m relay where he helped secure a second-place finish.

On the June bank holiday Marks competed in the Leinster Championships in Tullamore and won Senior long jump winning gold with two 7.16m efforts before earning silver in the U-23 100m sprint with a time of 11.30sec.

Then last Saturday the Duleek native competed in the Northern Ireland Championships at the Mary Peters track in Belfast. With good weather forecast, Marks was hoping to improve on his season’s best for the long jump and in what proved to be a high-quality competition with four athletes jumping over 7.40m he took the silver medal with 7.02m, 7.31m, 7.23m and a personal best 7.51m.

Marks also ran in the 100m sprint and with a time of 11.44sec secured a place in the final where he finished sixth in a time of 11.26, another PB.
