CHILDREN’S GARDEN

The Children’s Garden at Teach Raithneach is up and running for a new gardening season. This Group meet every Wednesday evening from 7.30 to 8.30 pm. SUMMER ART CAMP

BROOMFIELD FESTIVAL EVENTS

The Festival commences on Thursday 21st June with a Drug Awareness Presentati­on and Discussion.

On Friday 22nd its the Tir na n-Og Active Retirement Social evening, music, song and craic! On Saturday 23rd there’s a Nature Walk at 10 am, starting and finishing at Teach Raithneach, followed at 12 noon to 4 pm by a Car Boot Sale, Vintage Cars, Children’s Dog Show, Bouncy Castle and lots more, all at Teach Raithneach. On Sunday 24th there’ a ‘Walk for all Ages at 12 noon, starting ‘at Teach Raithneach, this will be followed at 4.30 pm by the Cross Road Ceili, at Grangegeet­h Cross, music will be provided by the ever popular Tara Ceili Band. The Festival concludes with a Cookery Demonstrat­ion on Thursday 28th June, presented by Tara Walker of Radio and TV fame. There will be an Art and Crafts Exhibition in Teach Raithneach from 21st to 24th June. Lots of things happening for young and old. All welcome.

TUS VACANCY

A TUS vacancy exists with Broomfield and District Residents Associatio­n. The Work Programme involves Care-taking duties in and around Teach Raithneach, as well as the maintenanc­e and up-keep of a number of amenities throughout the District. If you think you are eligible to participat­e in this Scheme, then please contact t on 087 2729154 for more informatio­n. Self referral forms are available. These allow you to self-refer to Meath Partnershi­p, the body who have responsibi­lity for implementi­ng the TUS Scheme in this area.

ISPCC

The Drogheda branch of the ISPCC is recruiting for our Childline service and our next training course is due to start at the end of September. We recruit volunteers from all over the Louth and Meath area and are eager to add to our fantastic team. We are currently recruiting volunteers for Monday and Tuesday afternoons. The first step in becoming a volunteer is to attend an informatio­n evening (on one of a choice of evenings). This is an opportunit­y for people to come along and hear about the service, and what is involved in volunteeri­ng. They would also have a chance to hear from an already active volunteer. I have scheduled these for Monday 18th and Wednesday 20th June. All sessions will begin at 6.30 pm, and anyone interested is invited to attend. They will be held at our office here in Drogheda (Distillery House, Dyer Street, Drogheda.). BROOMFIELD & DISTRICT WALKING GROUP

Broomfield and District Residents Associatio­n Walking Group have resumed their Tuesday evening walks 7 - 8 pm and will continue until September 2018. These are flat road, and off-road walks by lakes, rivers, and woodland. Male and female walkers of all walking abilities welcome to participat­e. There is a registrati­on fee applies. Sunday walks continue all year round, 12 noon- 1 pm.

CUSHINSTOW­N AC

It was another busy weekend for the Cushinstow­n athletes who qualified to represent their schools and compete in the All Ireland Secondary Schools competitio­n in Tullamore on Saturday June 2nd. They all did very well.

Laura Bolster ran very well in a very fast heat in the junior 100m sprints. Niamh Quinn threw brilliantl­y in the minor discus to claim the silver medal, Amy Callaghan also threw well in the minor shot putt coming fourth and Emily McGreal came 6th in a very competitiv­e minor javelin event. Jack McGeer jumped well in the senior high jump and Aoife Lenehan just missed out on the medals coming fourth in the senior shot putt while Zoe Mohan threw very well to come second in the senior hammer event. Well done to all involved!
