Millrace estate returns to Laytown/ Bettystown but no Bellewstown

-

THE boundary committee proposals have yet to be passed as they must go through the Dail and Laytown/Bettystown area councillor Paddy Meade has urged the public to make their feelings known to their elected representatives.

He has expressed satisfaction that Millrace has been returned to the area from Ashbourne. ‘Dividing the village in 2013 was stupid,’ he stated. ‘I’m happy they’ve listened this time around.’

But he feels the committee have played it ‘ too safe’ by not uniting the coastal beach areas.

‘We are going to be spending €2m on a beach plan that will serve four fifths of the beach area and not Gormanston as it’s in the Ashbourne area. Under our beach plan it would have gotten massive attention.’

He also says Ardcath and Stamullen should be in the region and people living in parts of Castletown, Lobinstown and Rathkenny don’t know where they are.

‘Some are in Kells, some in Laytown/ Bettystown, even Mentrim is in Kells.’

Apart from the slight changes in area, the local council body remains at seven representatives.
