Drogheda ‘shafted’

-

LABOUR councillor Pio Smith says that Drogheda has been ‘shafted’ in the new boundary changes.

“I don’t believe that the Boundary changes are good for Drogheda because now we have Clogherhead in the Electoral Area and there is just no way a councillor can cover such a large area.

‘ The changes also highlight the split nature of Drogheda with the Boundary report stating that a significant part of the town is in Meath and therefore as a town we have less representation on Louth County Council than Dundalk.

‘Drogheda has 10 Councillors in total while Dundalk has 13. Boundary changes are dictated by the sitting Government and once again Drogheda, the largest town in Ireland, has been shafted,’ he stated.

Meanwhile, his party colleague, Paul Bell, has confirmed his intention to stand again and says the campaign has already started for him.

He says there could be plenty of changes in the new council, given the boundary changes.
