- BY ALISON COMYN

A local scout group recently had two cubs’ teams enter the Louth County Cub Challenge in Rivertown near Dundalk. The Caribbean Coconuts from 7th Louth Coastal Cubs Group who were the overall winners of The Cub County Challenge held on May 19th. They competed with 18 other groups in the county.

“This is a huge achievement for our cubs and the first time the Group has ever won this challenge,” said a very proud Cubs Section Leader Carainn Mc Bride.

“We are also headed to Cork last weekend to enter the National Cubs Challenge, Kilcully, Co Cork and the theme being the Caribbean. I am so proud of the cubs to have done so well and for all their hard work.”

The second team, the Black Pearls, achieved Gold standard which is another huge achievement.

The scout group is still hoping their community spirit can eventually spread to finding a new home for their members.

The group used to have the name Clogherhead in the title, but such is the popularity of the branch, they are now taking in many more villages in the coastal area.

Unfortunately, this popularity means the groups are all split between different locations!

‘We have well over 100 members now, and a huge waiting list too,’ says Cub Leader Carainn McBride. ‘We would love a home for everyone.”
