A 23-year-old man who pleaded guilty to burglary and criminal damage charges had had his case adjourned to see if he is suitable to go before the drugs court.

David Kroes, Brickfield, Trinity Gardens, admitted his involvement in an incident which occurred at Herlihy’s Pharmacy, Crushrod Avenue on 19 March, 2018.

Sgt Ray Brady gave evidence that at 2.43am gardaí were called to the scene and found the accused trying to force the shutter open with a hammer. He was wearing rubber gloves and also had a screwdriver.

Kroes is now in Drogheda Homeless Aid, his solicitor Eleanor Kelly pointed out. He is getting €100 benefits per-week of which he gives €75 to Homeless Aid.

His father died by suicide two years ago and he turned to drugs. He is on a course.

Also, before Drogheda Court last week was an unlawful possession of drugs charge against Kroes, an offence which occurred at Bolton Street on 21 August, 2017.

He was to have €300 with him in order to have the matter struck out and Ms. Kelly asked for more time to pay.

Judge Coughlan adjourned all matters to 19 October next and asked for an up-dated probation report.
