Learn all about life on Shop Street and Peter Street

THE second in this year’s series of Old Drogheda Society Walk and Talks will take place on Wednesday June 20th, when Liam Reilly will lead a walk detailing the history of Peter Street and Shop Street, a short walk but with a great deal of content.

The walk departs at 7.30 pm from St Peter’s Square at the top of Peter Street and among the topics Liam will speal about are the Drogheda Market Cross, St John’s Home, confusion about the Star and Crescent, Siverman’s Pawn Shop, Clarke’s Pub , St Peter’s Parochial Centre, Peggy Duffy’s newsagents, the Nightwatch,, Frank Thornton 1916 and War of Independen­ce hero, The Central Hotel, Mrs Lovely and McGrane’s Pubs, The Tholsel, Bathe House, Daly’s Pub, The Drogheda Independen­t, Batchelors Lane, Galbraith’s Bakery, Collins Hardware, Bessixwell Lane, the pub with the unusual name, The Great Fire of Shop Street, The Round House. St Mary’s Bridge.

As usual Liam will have a few yarns about the characters associated with the two streets, he is recovering from a foot injury but looking forward to this Walk and Talk which had to be abandoned last year due to rain, but hopefully it will stay fine for this one. There is no set charge for the event but small donations to the Old Drogheda Society will be accepted.
