-

CUSHINSTOWN’S juvenile athletes put in some great performances on days one and two of the Under-12 to Under-19 Leinster Championships in Tullamore at the weekend.

In very changeable weather - one minute sunshine and the next rain, with some windy conditions in between - the athletes all performed brilliantly, with many personal bests achieved.

In all, 18 Cushinstown athletes travelled down over the two days, returning home with 15 Leinster medals and many winning through to the All-Ireland competitions in July.

In the U-13 boys javelin Lee Callaghan threw brilliantly to claim the silver medal, with James Bellew fourth, while in the U-13 60m hurdles Aoife Rohan was third in her heat and finished sixth overall.

In the U-14 75m hurdles Loclainn Harris ran very well in his heat and finished second overall, while he was seventh in the 60m sprint and fourth in the 200m. Unfortunately, injury prevented Ella Barry from taking part in her events on the day.

In the U-14 200m sprint Laura Bolster was first in her heat and ran brilliantly in the final to win the gold medal. She ran just as well in the 80m sprint, coming first in her heat and winning the gold medal, and she completed a hat-trick of gold medals over the weekend in the U-14 long jump.

In the U-15 200m sprints Abi Sheehy ran brilliantly, coming third in her heat and unlucky not to qualify for the final.

In the U-15 high jump Amy Callaghan was in great jumping form to win the gold medal.

The U-15 javelin was a very competitive event, with Amy Callaghan, Emily McGreal and Amy Bellew all throwing personal bests and coming second, third and fourth respectively. In the U-15 shot putt Amy Callaghan threw very well to claim the silver medal and Amy Bellew and Mollie White also threw well, with Amy fourth overall.

In the very competitive U-15 long jump Niamh Quinn jumped a personal best to finish in the top eight, with Abi Sheehy ninth. In the U-15 80m hurdles Niamh Quinn ran brilliantly in the heats and was very unlucky to just miss out on the medals, coming fifth overall.

In the U-15 discus Niamh Quinn threw brilliantly to win the gold medal, with Amy Bellew, Emily McGreal and Mollie White also throwing well and unfortunate not to place on the day.

In the U-16 high jump Jack McGeer jumped very well, coming fifth, and he was also unfortunate not to make the final of the U-16 100m.

Katie Rose Lenehan competed in the javelin at that age group and came third, with Aine O’Sullivan fourth, while in the discus it was second for Katie and third for Aine.

In the U17 high jump Orlaith Quinn jumped very well, coming sixth overall, while in both the U-18 shot putt and discus Aoife Jane Lenehan won silver and Ciaran Kearns was fourth in the U-19 boys long jump.
