Cushinstown juveniles shine at championships
CUSHINSTOWN’S juvenile athletes put in some great performances on days one and two of the Under-12 to Under-19 Leinster Championships in Tullamore at the weekend.
In very changeable weather - one minute sunshine and the next rain, with some windy conditions in between - the athletes all performed brilliantly, with many personal bests achieved.
In all, 18 Cushinstown athletes travelled down over the two days, returning home with 15 Leinster medals and many winning through to the All-Ireland competitions in July.
In the U-13 boys javelin Lee Callaghan threw brilliantly to claim the silver medal, with James Bellew fourth, while in the U-13 60m hurdles Aoife Rohan was third in her heat and finished sixth overall.
In the U-14 75m hurdles Loclainn Harris ran very well in his heat and finished second overall, while he was seventh in the 60m sprint and fourth in the 200m. Unfortunately, injury prevented Ella Barry from taking part in her events on the day.
In the U-14 200m sprint Laura Bolster was first in her heat and ran brilliantly in the final to win the gold medal. She ran just as well in the 80m sprint, coming first in her heat and winning the gold medal, and she completed a hat-trick of gold medals over the weekend in the U-14 long jump.
In the U-15 200m sprints Abi Sheehy ran brilliantly, coming third in her heat and unlucky not to qualify for the final.
