Wayne is new area cathaoirleach
WAYNE Harding (right) became cathaoirleach of the Laytown/Bettystown area council for the first time last week.
The Slane FF councillor secured the role on a 5-2 vote from Cllr Sharon Tolan FG. Cllr Sharon Keogan was elected on a 4-3 vote from Cllr Tolan.
Addresing his colleagues Cllr Harding accepted the role in difficult circumstances as his brother Gary passed away tragically recently.
He said this year would see him again push for the Slane bypass.
The Greenway from Slane to Drogheda along the Boyne was another aim and said it was ‘a massive tourism opportunity.’
Slane Community Centre project was progressing and he wanted to see the further development of the Men’s Shed in Slane that catered for Lobinstown to Donore. He also said that he wanted to progress the twinning between Slane and Downpatrick.
The meeting heard condolences for Cllr Harding on the loss of his brother and Cllr Tolan on the death of her father, John.
