Parking on the Coast Road proving a nightmare

Youths are swimming in quarries

-

ONGOING issues with people parking on the footpath on the Coast Road has again been raised.

Cllr Sharon Tolan told last week’s area council meeting that something had to be done.

Cllr Tom Kelly agreed, saying parking tickets had been issued but it was still going on.

The council said that they were going to do something across from Relish in relation to the situation.

‘ The parking around the entrance to Brookside has to be sorted out. The bin lorry couldn’t get in and that would be the same for an ambulance or a fire engine,’ Cllr Eimear Ferguson added.

The council also said bollards could be looked at for the area.

Cllr Sharon Keogan wants the council to look at the ongoing craze of young people swimming in local quarries, stating it was very dangerous, and she feared a tragedy if it wasn’t tackled.

‘Quarries are on private property but we can write to the owners,’ Director of Services Fiona Lawless stated.

Cllr Stephen McKee agreed, saying he knew of people swimming in two local quarries and it simply wasn’t safe.
