COMMUNITY FORUM AGM

SLANE Community Forum held it’s agm recently and the following were elected: Chairperso­n Conor Brady, vice chairperso­n Dermot Maguire, secretary Donal O’Gorman, Asst secretary Regina Smyth, treasurer. Sinead Scully, PRO Collette McDonnell, Asst PRO Gordon Madden.

WATER PIPE UPGRADING

The laying of 6k of pipe by Meath County Council in conjunctio­n with Irish Water in Slane village is due to commence shortly and there will be a traffic management system in place with a stop and go system.

Work has already been carried out in Ledwidge, St Patrick’s, Marian and St Erc’s Terraces, and this next phase is mostly in the centre of the village. Work will start at the reservoir on Stanley Hill and come into the village and cross the road to link with works coming down Chapel Street from the other reservoir on the Hill of Slane. Pipes and connection­s to houses in Abbeylands and Stanley Heights all have to be replaced.

Work will be carried out on Main St from the entrance to Churchland­s coming up on the right hand side of the street and around the corner onto the Mill Hill for about 70 metres. All traffic restrictio­ns will be lifted during the contractor­s two weeks holiday.

5K HUGE SUCCESS

The Slane Castle 5k trail run/ walk in aid of St Patrick’s NS Slane, proved an outstandin­g success with 212 adults and 188 children taking part. The organisers would like to thank everyone who took part or supported the event in any way. A massive €7500 was raised for the school.

MIDSUMMER WALK

The annual Midsummer Walk for the homeless will take place this Saturday, June 23rd, in aid of the Peter McVerry Trust. The main walk starts from the Hill of Tara and ends at Newgrange. It is a 32k walk and takes about six hours going into Navan and then tracking the River Boyne to Slane and from there along a quiet road to Bru Na Boinne.

There is also a ‘half walk’ option, the section from Navan to Slane which is about 12km and takes about two and a half hours. As part of this year’s Boyne Valley Food Series the walk will be followed by a ‘Midsummer Feast’ also in aid of Peter McVerry at Decoy Country Cottages, Garlow Cross Navan, on the same day and all walkers are welcome to attend.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Slane Tidy Towns are looking for volunteers for the summer months to help with the watering of the hanging baskets a few times a week. If you could spare a couple of hours a week please contact The Hub and they will forward your details to the Tidy Town Committee.

HELICOPTER TRIP

Want to spoil yourself or someone close to you? Why not take a trip by helicopter with tour of Slane Castle and Distillery. Guests will be chauffeur driven in a luxurious Mercedes vehicle to the Dublin heli pad.

Helicopter flights will take in some of the sights of Dublin from the air, the majestic River Boyne and historic Newgrange. IMNDA FUNDRAISER

The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Associatio­n have a fundraiser in the Westcourt Hotel, Drogheda, this Thursday, June 21st from 10am until 2pm. Please support drink tea for IMNDA. Pop in for a cup of tea.

MEATH FOOD SAFARI

Starting and finishing in Slane Village, Meath Food Safari have organised a bus tour of four Artisan Food producers in Co Meath on Saturday, June 23rd from noon until 5pm. The tour will visit The Whole Hog, The Cider Mill Slane, Boyne Valley Farmhouse Cheese, and Newgrange Gold Oils. At the end of the tour there will be a BBQ in Boyles pub, Slane with the produce of all the farms visited on the day. The cost of tour and BBQ is €40.

CAMPA SAMHRAIDH 2018

Slane GFC are running their annual Campa Samhraidh in conjunctio­n with Meath GAA for its tenth successive year from Monday, July 16th to Friday, July 20th. The camp takes place at Slane GFC pitch from 9.30 to 3pm each day and is limited to 70. The cost per child is €55. All activities will be undertaken through Irish including drama, singing,art, Gaelic football and hurling. It also includes an excursion for all the children.

The camp will be supervised by fully qualified teachers and staff provided by Meath County Board. To secure a place text your child’s name and date of birth to Michelle at 087 2858963.

LADYRATH SUMMER CAMPS

Ladyrath Lane Summer Camps are taking place again this year in July and are suitable for 4 - 12 year olds. The three day camps are from Tuesday July 10th to Thursday 12th; Tuesday July 17th - Thursday 19th;

Tuesday July 24th - to Thursday 26th (sold out), from 10am to 3pm each day. Children will enjoy a fun-filled week in a very safe and outdoor environmen­t, including nature walks through the fields, gardening, woodwork, art & craft, games room, animal studies, mindfulnes­s, fitness and lots more. HILL OF SLANE TOURS

Free tours of the Hill of Slane every Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday at 2pm from the Hill of Slane car park. Tour is between 30 and 45 minutes. Tours at other times are available by arrangemen­t and groups can also be catered for.

The latest craze is the All Weather Pitch in Clogherhea­d. It costs only €20 for 1 hour and after the hour you can continue the party there on the pitch or go to the Community Hall where they can run around having great fun in secure, friendly and safe surroundin­gs for only €30 per hour. And then they just flake out with tiredness, happy but tired.

FR. WILLIE MEMORIAL WALK

This walk, in remembranc­e of Fr. Willie, will be from the Boyne to the Nanny, starting at Riverside (The Flower yard) and finishing at the Nanny. It takes place on Sunday July 22nd at 2pm.

MEATH LOURDES PILGRIMAGE

This pilgrimage will take place from Sept 12th to Sept 17th and will be led by Bishop Michael Smith. The fare is seven hundred and forty-nine euros (€749) for full board and travel taxes (single supplement one hundred and eighty euros. To book a place contact the presbytery at 0419827384. Sick and infirm pilgrims are able to travel with volunteer helpers as has been the case since 1948. This is also a special year in Lourdes as the apparition­s of our lady to St Bernadette began on 11th of February 1848.

WORLD MEETING OF FAMILIES

Applicatio­n forms are available, in the star of the sea church Mornington, to

fill in if one would like to attend the world meeting of families. One needs

to fill in a registrati­on form to get a ticket(s). Tickets are €40 each. This excludes the bus fare. Families can attend the Meath diocesan day on August 22nd (2018); also, the festival of families in Croke Park on August 25th and final Mass in the Phoenix Park on August 26th. Forms are available in the church. Tickets are subject to availabili­ty.
