SPECSAVERS Drogheda put their wheels in motion recently by holding a fundraising static cycle for The Hope Foundation outside the store.

The cycle took place all day with members of the Specsavers Drogheda team pedalling each on the day. The store experienced enormous support and kindness from the local community, making this fundraiser a roaring success.

Specsavers Drogheda store director David McCloskey said: ‘As one of Specsavers’ supported charities, we were delighted to take part in a fun activity to support The Hope Foundation. We would like to thank locals for their amazing generosity on the day and would like to extend a big “thank you” to Austin Walsh Quay Cycles who donated a bike to the store for the fundraiser.’

In 2017, a team of optometrists from Specsavers stores in Ireland embarked on a volunteering trip with The Hope Foundation to Kolkata, carrying out over 1,000 eye tests on people across slums, schools, hospitals and rural villages in the region.

They dispensed over 300 pairs of glasses and 600 pairs of pre-made bifocals to those who were tested. In addition to this, urgent referrals were made for eye disease and trauma-related issues, as well as 100 referrals for cataracts, to The Hope Hospital.
