BELLEWSTOWN RACES JULY FESTIVAL 2018 Wednesday 4th to Saturday 7th July ...

-

MID-SUMMER Evenings at Bellewstown Races on the Hill of Crockafatha are cherished by those who have enjoyed the experience, and if you have not done so yet you should get yourself racing up on The Hill from Wednesday 4th through to Saturday 7th July for ‘ The Social Event of the summer!’ This July is extra special with racing taking place across four consecutive evenings for the very first time. Soak up the unique & friendly atmosphere taking in the views to the sea, the colour, the style and the buzz of Racing at Bellewstown.

Bellewstown Racecourse is beautifully situated with magnificent views of the Mountains of Mourne to the north and the Irish Sea to the east. The tradition of Summer Racing dates back centuries and the first record of racing here appears in the August edition of the Dublin Gazette and the Weekly Courier in 1726.

This year racegoers can avail of some seriously good value by purchasing a Punters Package for any of the four evenings –‘ The Bellewstown Belter’ which includes Enclosure Admission, Free Pint, a €5 ‘Matched’ Bet and a Colour Racecard – all this for only €20 with tickets available online at www.bellewstownraces.ie

If you fancy living it up a little we also have some friendly hospitality options each evening to suit all budgets with course entry, dining options, race card, on site betting facility and live entertainment from local bands The Enemies or Rubber Ducks all included in the price. Again tickets available on line but only while stocks last!

Wednesday 4th July sees the 3rd running since the recent renewal of the Drogheda Traders Plate. The ‘Plate’ was first raced for on the famous hill of Bellewstown in 1834. As the name suggests the purse and the Plate itself were funded by a group of Drogheda Traders keen to acknowledge the close historical link between the town and the races at Bellewstown and was last raced for in 1959.

The local Bellewstown Races Committee were very keen to reinstate this race and the link between the racecourse and the Drogheda business community so in 2016 the “Plate” was raced for once again. The race itself is a flat handicap over 2 m and 1 f and it will have a guaranteed prize fund of 25,000 Euro.

Local businesses who contribute are named as a co-sponsors of the race and attend The Festival Marquee on the night itself where there are exclusive competitions and prizes and a hugely exciting sweepstake where the top prize is valued at over 2000 euro.

Everything is in place for an exciting 2018 edition and the race looks sure to grow in popularity and profile year on year.

On Friday 6th July Bellewstown Racecourse will host the Scotch Hall Best Dressed Dressed Event, judged by TV personality Lorraine Keane with the winner winning a shopping spree to the value of €3,000 at Drogheda’s Number one shopping venue Scotch Hall. There are also plenty of other prizes on offer from local businesses with some weekends away at some of Ireland’s leading hotels.
