Ryan storms to victory in Midsummer 5k

ANOTHER exciting weekend of athletics saw Boyne AC athletes in action both at home and further afield.

Friday evening saw Simon Ryan take a commanding win in the Midsummer 5k, crossing the line in a fantastic time of 16.01.

Tadgh Everitt Thompson was delighted to finish 5th overall and 1st Junior, but was even more delighted with his new pb time of 17.33.

Andrew White was next across the line for Boyne in a super 18.59. Nicola Veale ran well to finish in 24.33, while it was a family affair for Eabha McGabhann, finishing in 30.22 with mum Edel McGabhann just behind in 30.23 and granny Margaret Durnin running an impressive 38.00!

Saturday saw the historical Irish Life Health Tailteann Interprovi­ncial Games take place in the Morton Stadium in Santry, where the four provinces competed against each other with athletes will also be vying for places on the SIAB Schools’ Internatio­nal team.

Having qualified through the national schools championsh­ips, Tara Meier was a firm favourite in the girls 80mhurdles, where she did not disappoint.

A super start for this talented young lady saw her take a commanding lead with only one barrier to clear, and with the gap widening with every strife, she crossed the line in fine style taking the well deserved win.

Tara now gets to don the Irish vest as she will compete in the SIAB Games taking place in Scotland.

The weekend finished on a high for some of the senior members of Boyne, as they took part in the Irish Runner 5 mile in the Phoenix Park.

With temperatur­es hitting the twenties, the course was challengin­g, but great runs by all saw some happy faces at the end. Rebecca Carolan was first to cross the line for the club, finishing in the top 20 ladies, 35.32.

Mairéad Hallinan ran well to finish in 44.05, with Jillian Connor just behind in 44.07 and Eimear Rickard hot on thier heels in 44.10.

Annmarie Garcia ran well to finish in 51.07, with clubmates Julie OShea and Nicola Finnegan crossing the line together in 54.57.
