St Mary’s students bowled over by Greenhills demonstrat­ion

GREENHILLS bowls club recently gave a demonstrat­ion to the student’s of 4th, 5th and 6th classes of St Mary’s Parish Primary School.

The students got to see how the game is played and they tried their hand at the sport with great excitement and enjoyment had by all.

Teacher Brian Kelly remarked that it was great to see the Greenhills coaches showing their creative skills on how to play the game. He added that quite a lot of students were very impressed and showed great interest in playing the game, while the teachers also played a few ends with the students.

Greenhills juvenile officer Tom Devin said the game is a great way of keeping fit, staying active and making new friends.

H said he hoped in the future that one of the local schools would consider purchasing a bowling mat and equipment and include bowling as part of the physical activity programme.

Club Chairman Jack Howell thanked the school principal Mr Weir and teacher Brian Kelly for facilitati­ng the club on the day and for their hospitalit­y and club coaches on the day Alan Thornberry and Tom Devin for giving of their time.

Play continues on Thursday this week for juveniles from 7-8.15 pm and seniors from 8.15 to 10.30pm.
