MURPHY’S Bar & Restaurant Meigh sponsored June Medal produced some cracking scores in the quest for one of the 8 Silver Medals (Mar-Oct) which gets you through to the Gold Medal October final. A regular featured player in the Thursday Seniors John Joe Hsssard (17) showed that he can mix it with the rest also by returning a terrific nett 61 to win the June Medal by a shot. Meanwhile Friday Open number 10 was won with 39 points and needed a countback to separate the top three placings. For the second successive Friday Jamie Duffy (4) was relegated to the runner-up spot as he was edged out this time by his playing partner and overall winner Colin Pilkington (3) with Greenore’s Sean Kellegher (7) picking up the third placed prizemoney after all had finished on 39 points.

The 12 hole Maritime Trophy over holes 1-6 and 13-18 provided us with the closest Seniors final scores ever as all competitors finished within 2 points of each other. There were 4 players on the 23 point mark with Brendan Hughes winning from Charlie O Hare and Raymond McCumiskey in third place as Raymond Kelkly lost out on the podium appearance. It is make or break week for the club on the Inter-Club front with 5 home leg fixtures to be placed from Tuesday until Sunday. On Tuesday Joe Pilkington will be hoping that his Sam Rutherford can overturn a 2 hole deficit from Royal County Down as they face Mourne. Two days later in the Ulster Cup Joe’s charges face an even tougher test in the Ulster Cup as a strong Lisburn team come seeking to build on their home 5-2 lead. The Back 9 White Markers are proving very cruel to Niall Owens (14) as for the second time he has been touched off for a place in the final and a win via the countback. DUNDALK

SIXTEEN handicapper Kevin Redmond produced a level par back nine to take Leslie Walker’s Professional Prize on countback on a perfect day for golf last Sunday.

Redmond signed for a four under par 68 and his superb score over the final nine holes saw him pip Eddie Rocks (10) and Gerard Daly (13) who had also finished on four under par.

Redmond hadn’t looked like a winner after his opening nine holes which he covered 40 nett, four over par. After a steady start he was one under par nett after a par at the second but a quadruple bogey eight at the eighth and double bogeys at the fifth and seventh left him with a lot of work to do down the back nine.

He was a completely different player heading for home as he rolled in one birdie, seven pars and one bogey for a level par 36 which was a nett 28, eight under par.

Rocks took Category One and Daly won the Veteran’s Prize while the evergreen Peter Rogers (1) claimed the Gross Prize with a
