WITNESSES APPEAL AFTER MAN SHOT SIX TIMES AT HALTING SITE
GARDAI are hunting a gunman who shot a 34-year-old local man six times at a halting site on the Cement Road in the early hours of last Thursday morning.
The man was shot in the arms, legs, abdomen and shoulder.
He was semi conscious when gardai arrived at the scene and he was treated there before being removed by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.
No one else was injured and the scene was preserved for a forensic and technical examination. An incident room has been established at Drogheda Garda Station.
‘We are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to contact us here at the incident room in Drogheda Station. We are particularly appealing to anyone who was in the Cement Road or Mell area of Drogheda between 11.45pm and 12.30am on Wednesday/Thursday to come forward,’ Superintendent Andrew Watters said.
It is believed that two cars were involved in the incident, one being a white saloon. They may have made their escape in the North Road or Mell direction.
The victim of the shooting is said to be in a stable condition.
Also, a blue Volkswagen Passet with an 03 D reg was stopped in Dundalk about half an hour later. Gardai are seeking information about the car and if any occupants were seen acting suspiciously between Drogheda and Dundalk prior to it being stopped.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Drogheda Garda Station on 041- 9874200 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
