Fionnuala Sweeney to address monthly Memory Cafe event

One of the country’s leading national and internatio­nally-renowned journalist­s is coming to speak on Alzheimer’s in Drogheda.

RTE presenter and former CNN anchor, Fionnuala Sweeney, is to speak at the monthly Memory Cafe at Relish in Laurence Street on Tuesday, July 10.

A multi-award winning journalist during her CNN days, Ms Sweeney has a special interest in dementia and Alzheimer’s.

She says she is particular­ly focused on finding ways of early detection.

She points out that 4,000 additional people every year are suffering from these illnesses.

Ms Sweeney is keen to spread the word on trying to find ways of helping victims and their families.

The top personalit­y will be remembered by many for presenting the Eurovision Song Contest from Mill Street in 1993.

She currently presents the current affairs programme, The Late Debate, on Thursday nights at 10pm.

Her appearance at the Memory Cafe is from 6 to 8pm and, as always, admission is free.

SHARON Shannon the button accordion player from Co Clare has recorded and toured with a who’s who of the Irish and Global Music Industry, including Bono, Adam Clayton, Sinead O’Connor, Jackson Browne, John Prine ,Steve Earle, The RTE Concert Orchestra, The Chieftains, The Waterboys, Willie Nelson, Nigel Kennedy, Alison Krauss and Shane MacGowan .

Her 12 studio recorded albums to date have all been very different and groundbrea­king mixing traditiona­l Irish with reggae, country, Native American, bluegrass, rap, dance, African,French Canadian.

Her music has been featured in several Hollywood movies and she also played a cameo role in the Neil Jordan movie ‘Ondine’. She has worked on a stage producton of JM Synges ‘ The Playboy of the Western World’ which was directed by Jim Sheridan.

Sharon brings her show to the TLT on August 14. Tickets €27.50.

Sharon will be joined on the night with Jack Maher, Sean Regan and Jim Murray.

Little Red Riding Hood

Jolly Promotions presents Little Red Riding Hood and the Silly Billy Fox on July 26 at the TLT.

This children’s favourite is one that the kids will want to come and see. Cost €10.
