A GOOD WALK
MANNAN CASTLE
LAST weekend’s competition was the P.J. McArdle Cup, which is a joint competition open to both men and women, it was played in very testing conditions, in unrelenting heat and sunshine, which took its toll on many of the players. Marie Finnegan (22) mastered the condition brilliantly and saw off the opposition with a magnificent score of 44 points, her reward for her excellent play was to be cut by two shots, now playing off of 20 well done Marie. Marie has showed good form of late and it was no surprise that she lifted the P.J. McArdle Cup. 2nd place went to Michael Marley (20) with a fine score of 42 points, with Tom McDermott in 3rd place with 41 points. Well done to our winners and to all who took part.

Week 8 of the Super Thursday Open Competition, (main sponsor gogolfworldwide.com) produced an exceptional round by our 2017 golfer of the year Tomas Pepper. Tomas, who plays off 2, had 3 birdies in the first four holes setting the stage for something special to happen and it did, Tomas (red hot) Pepper had four more making it an magnificent seven birdies and no drop shots. As a result Tomas is now playing off of one after scoring 45 points. Tommy’s Magnificent Seven birdie card will be posted in the clubhouse for all to drool over.
Tommy Hoey (17) scored an amazing 42 points which would normally take the spoils, Roger McCullough (9) must be equally disappointed with scoring 42 points also our Seniors Captain Terry Doherty scoring another 42 did not make the top three.
Result: 1st Tomas Pepper (2) 45 pts, 2nd Tommy Hoey (18) 42 Pts, 3rd Roger McCullough (10) 42 pts.
Great to see so many ladies play in last week’s stroke competition ‘Subsidised Subscription’. Thirty-eight ladies played in glorious conditions, which added to the run on the ball. Bridie Fitzmaurice (24) managed to handle the dry conditions the best by posting a nett score of 68, with Mary Cassidy (16) coming so close with a nett 69. Three ladies had 70, but there can only be one, Marie Finnegan (22) who took third place on count back from Roisin McNulty and Marie Conlon.
