Twocars flipped overafter accident

-

‘A desperate case of dangerous driving,’ is how the judge has described an incident in which a 26-year-old local man rear-ended a car as he attempted to overtake it which resulted in both vehicles flipping over.

Shane Floyd, Elmwood Close, Termon Abbey, pleaded guilty to a charge of dangerous driving on the Termonfeckin Road.

He has no previous convictions and has been working in the same factory for the last ten years.

His solicitor described this as a momentary lapse and handed into court letters of apology from his client for the injured parties.

Inspector John O’Flaherty said that on 10 May last Floyd travelled at high speed out the road, overtaking a number of vehicles.

He attempted to overtake another which he rear-ended. Both cars flipped on the road, ending on their roofs.

Judge Coughlan refused a defence application to reduce the charge to one of careless driving, remarking it is a desperate case of dangerous driving. ‘He shouldn’t be on the road.’ A two-year driving disqualification was imposed in addition to a €75 fine.
