TURKISH Airlines and Globe Travel have announced sponsorship of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2018.

The partnership gives exclusive naming rights for the Turkish Airlines Lounge & Stage during the week of the Fleadh. Turkish Airlines have also contributed an impressive competition prize with the value of €10,000 for viewers tuning into TG4 for the Fleadh TV shows.

Welcoming the sponsorship, Deputy Chair of the Fleadh Executive Committee, Padraic Kierans said, “this is a wonderful sponsorship, which provides a fantastic prize for those watching the live broadcast on Fleadh TV to win in August. I would like to thank Sandra Finegan from Globe Travel who made the intro, and provided the platform for us to secure this great partnership with Globe Travel and Turkish Airlines.

‘Drogheda and Turkey have a very special relationship going back centuries and those ties are strong and fruitful for both parties. We look forward to working with Globe Travel and Turkish Airlines to maximise their exposure from this generous sponsorship, and thank them both for their support of Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann 2018 and Comhaltas.”

This is the first time in 46 years that the Fleadh will be held on the east coast of Ireland and the local economy is set to benefit to the tune of €40million. 400,000 visitors are expected to attend the week-long festival in August, with 30% of people expected to travel from overseas to enjoy the festivities on offer.

A group of Turkish musicians will also travel to perform at the Gig Rig during the week long Fleadh, cemeting the historic relationship between Turkey and the town of Drogheda.
