Tough start for Boyne

BOYNE RFC have been handed the toughest possible test in their opening Leinster League Division 1A clash of the 2018/19 season as they face a trip to the defending champions Ashbourne on September 15th.

The Drogheda club’s first home game is the following Saturday against the team relegated from the All-Ireland League, Bective Rangers, while the two Louth derbies are at Shamrock Lodge on November 17th and Mill Road on the final day of the season, March 9th.

Other teams competing in the Leinster League’s top flight are Enniscorth­y, Kilkenny, Wicklow and Gorey.

Boyne will be coached this coming season by Gary Downey and Robert Shuttlewor­th, with Karl Keogh named as the new captain.

The Drogheda club finished their 2017/18 campaign in fifth place, just four points above the relegation play-off position.
