€360,000 in funding for fishing industry

OVER €360,000 in funding has been awarded to three Co Louth fishery and seafood pojects.

€362,000 has been granted to assist the local Louth projects, two in the Seafood Processing Capital Investment Scheme and another for the Sustainabl­e Fisheries Scheme.

Louth TD Fergus O’Dowd welcomed the funding.

“Minister for Agricultur­e Food and the Marine Michael Creed confirmed total funding of €1,532,230 in grants to 20 seafood enterprise­s in 10 different counties under the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund Operationa­l Programme for the seafood sector. The grants are co-funded by Government of Ireland and the European Union and subject to terms and conditions.,” he said.

“This is fantastic news for County Louth and shows a commitment to supporting developmen­t in our local fisheries.

“They provide significan­t local employment and this funding will help support upwards of €1m in local developmen­t projects. “

Seafood Processors Ltd. received a total of €221,250 as an investment in value added processing equipment, plus an additional funding of €10,664.

Clogherhea­d Fishermen’s Coop received €130,043 for Landing Obligation Infrastruc­ture.

Three support schemes are available to the seafood processing sector to foster and support innovation, value-adding, new market developmen­t and investment in new equipment and premises.
