Council hoping to get funding for long awaited projects

-

LOUTH County Council will be hoping to secure funding for the upgrading of Bridge Street in Dundalk and the long await Port Access Road in Drogheda through money which is being made available for Urban Regeneration and Development.

Chief Executive Ms Joan Martin told councillors that it will be one of the projects which the Council will be submitted to latest round of funding for urban centres with a population in excess of 10,000.

The scheme is for projects which cost at least €2million and matching funding of 25 per cent must be met by the applicant. The closing date for the scheme is the end of September and workshops had already been held with the intention of setting up a working group within the local authority.

She cited the extensive of the paving upgrade into Bridge Street as an example of a project for Dundalk, while the Port Access Road could be a project for Drogheda.

Funding will also be available for Rural Regeneration with all other towns and villages in the county falling in that category.

In this case, projects must have a minimum value of €500,000 and again matching funding of 25 per cent will be required.

‘We are talking about plan based, area based transformative projects,’ she said.

The local authority will be looking for partners to develop projects and she said she would be talking to the Chamber of Commerce about suitable projects.
