Concerns voiced about water supply for Fleadh

-

COUNCILLORS who sought assurances that there will be an adequate water supply when the Fleadh takes place in Drogheda next month were told that there is ‘no plan B’ but if problems arise they will be dealt with.

Following the burst main pipe close to the Stameen Treatment Plant at the end of May, a number of councillors wanted to know what steps were in place to ensure that there is enough water for the hundreds of thousands of visitors expected for the Fleadh.

Cllr David Saurin wanted to know if the council could guarantee that there will be a water supply to cater for the hundreds of thousands of visitors and if there was a plan in place in the event of another leak.

Director of Service Emer O’Gorman replied that a meeting has taken place with Irish Water regarding the Fleadh and the company was carefully monitoring water levels. There was no issue at the moment and she assured councillors that water supplies would be provided, and bottled water would be available if needed.

‘If a burst was to happen during the Fleadh it would be an emergency situation and a series one for health and safety,’ stated Cllr Frank Godfrey, who sought reassurances that it would happened.

‘Is there a Plan B if a pipe bursts and will we have sufficient water?’ asked Cllr Saurin.

He was told that while ‘ there is no Plan B’, issues would be dealt with as they arise. There could be no guarantee that another burst wouldn’t happen but it would be dealt with.

Water supplies included bottle water, would be provided if needed.
