Time to upgrade the office of the mayor of the town

-

THE local elections next year will see Drogheda split into Drogheda Urban and Drogheda Rural with the urban area getting six seats and the rural, four.

Much has been made of the area in south Drogheda and how some of it is in East Meath - adding even more to the boundary issues.

But the new electoral areas do nothing to address the obvious issues about the entire region and its electoral status.

I presume the next mayor will come from the joint Urban and Rural councillors or will it be just the Urban district?

And on the issue of the mayor, I think the position needs to be elevated upwards, with a dedicated Mayor’s Office opened.
