ST Josephs upset the odds to book their place in the quarter finals of the Senior Football Championship thanks to three-point victory over neighbours O’Connells in Dunleer on Sunday evening in humid conditions.

O’Connells were slight favourites prior to this tie after dispatching O’Raghallaighs last weekend, while the Joes had lost out to the Drogheda mem the previous week.

But a a rousing display saw the Joes progress on score difference.

The Darver and Dromiskin side set up a quarter-final date with last year’s champions Newtown Blues while the O’Connells will face Naomh Mairtin.

By the time the sides retired for the half time break, the O’Connells led by 1-3 to 0-5 in a match which lacked quality with poor shooting from both sides especially the Joes, who kicked seven wides in that opening period.
