LUMPER’S SOCIETY

THE premier event of the year, Captain Day was held at Headfort Golf Club (Old Course) on Saturday, July 14th. At large number of members turned out to honour the Captain, Donal O’Hagan and to compete for his prize on a course that was presented in an excellent condition. With beautiful sunshine throughout the day, the members had a most enjoyable round of golf in near perfect weather conditions.

However, the narrow fairways, combined with fast greens and tight pin positions called for a high standard of shot making in order to achieve good scores and unfortunately many fell down in this department. But as often happens on these occasions, one individual managed to separate himself from the rest of the field and in compiling an excellent score of 37stableford points, Rory O’Hagan returned the winning scorecard and was a worthy winner of the Captain’s Prize.

When the round had concluded, the golfers enjoyed a meal and refreshments in the Clubhouse. Before the presentation of prizes, Captain, Donal thanked the committee and members of Headfort for the use of their facilities, the caterer for providing a delicious meal and the members of his own committee for assisting him with organising his Captain’s Day.

The Prize winners were as follows: Winner: Rory O’Hagan; Second: Alan Dullaghan; Third: Danny Murtagh; Front Nine: Niall Breen; Back Nine: Liam Manning; Nearest the Pin: Peter Morgan; Longest Drive: Vincent Loughran; Visitors Prize: Neil Murtagh.

Our next outing will see the conclusion of the Player of the Year Competition, with Thomas Dullaghan, David Lambe and Alan Dullaghan all in contention to win this much coveted prize at Ardee Golf Club, on Saturday, August 18th.
