Over €70,000 in grants for coastal projects
ALMOST €250k has been once again secured for North East Coastal Projects, with over 70,000 in this region.
Local TD Fergus O’Dowd has confirmed that €246,451.99 has been secured for projects on the coast in the North East as part of grants co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union under Ireland’s European Maritime & Fisheries Fund Operational Programme
“My colleague the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Creed, confirmed the money is to be delivered as part of EMFF grants of €1.5million, awarded by Ireland’s 7 Fisheries Local Action Groups (FLAGs) to 106 coastal based projects,” he said.“These grants can transform local coastal communities and help enterprise and environmental.”
Successful projects include investments in areas such as micro seafood enterprises, marine tourism and marine leisure projects, heritage projects, small harbour facilities, and environmental and training projects. The Seafood Rocks festival received €44,000 out of a total €90,000 spend; toilets at the Little Strand through the Clogherhead Development Group €10,500 towards a bill of €13,500; the same group got funding of €5,600 out of €7,000 for the Clogherhead Seaside 10k; the National Sandscatle Competition in Bettystown was supported to the tune of €1,900 out of €2,400; €2,700 was awarded to Boynevalley Coastal Tours to assist with €5,500 cost; Upstate Theatre was given €6,100 towards a €7,700 cost of Waterways developing a project focused on working with coastal communities, and the Meath East Community Association got €1,300 funding towards the €1,40 cost of the Bettystown Village Enhancement project.
