BADGER DEATHS
I noticed that a small female badger had been killed on the townland boundaries of Stedalt and Ballestrand on Sunday night July 15th last. The small female badger could be seen lying at the side of the Ballestrand Road on Mnday of last week. However, on Tuesday morning, July 17th last, only a day after the first badger had been killed, a second badger was also killed within a few meters of where the first badger had met its end. This second badger was larger than the first animal killed; perhaps the first badger may well have been the young cub with the second badger being its mother?
Both animals appeared to have been struck by a vehicle and both were lying on the lefthand verge of the road as you would drive towards Ballestrand from Stedalt Cross.
MEATH RURAL SOCIAL SCHEME VACANCY
Due to the expansion of the Rural Social Scheme, Meath Partnership is currently inviting applications from members of the farming community who may wish to seek employment on this particular scheme in Co. Meath. The primary aim of the scheme is to provide an opportunity for farmers and/or their spouses and, in some instances, their children, to earn a supplementary income through employment in local community projects, primarily in the development of local amenities, facilities and services in rural communities. SCHOOL EXTENSION
The extension to Scoil Naomh Feichin is progressing very well. Some motorists may experience delays outside the school as a stop/go traffic light system is in operation as work is being carried out to facilitate the new entrance format to the school and align it to the road.
It is expected to be a one way system for dropping children to school with entry to the drop off zone from travelling up the hill and exit at the top of the hill. Posts are in place at the exit to accommodate 2” Stop Signs” and mostly likely 2 “No Entry Signs” on the rear of the Stop Signs. Hopefully these new arrangements will not cause any confusion and the one way system will operate as planned. The new extension is certainly looking very well and a great addition to the existing school building.
