Anger at Coolagh Bridge road closures

-

MYSTERY surrounds the section of roadworks on the Beamore Road, which has closed access to Coolagh Bridge for a week, and left local residents fuming at diversions.

They are also concerned there may have been a connection between the work being carried out and a large gas leak beside the bridge, which saw all residents being warned to close windows and doors on Thursday evening.

Many residents were not informed directly from Bord Gais or Gas Networks Ireland but heard about it from online news alerts.

The road was closed last Monday morning, with no prior notification to residents and traffic was diverted away and wasn’t open again until late Wednesday night,” explains local resident Shannon O’Donovan.

“I went down to ask the workmen how long the work would continue, but they weren’t able to tell us, and Louth County Council weren’t aware of the diversions.”

The road was once again closed on Thursday after a gas leak. “My concern is no one seems to know how long the bridge will be closed, and the traffic diverted,” she adds.

“Cars were being sent along the road at Lagavoureen Manor, which is not ideal for heavy traffic and added another 40 minutes to my daily commute to Dublin.”
