COMMUNITY GARDEN IS A SPACE FOR ALL

- BY ALISON COMYN

The sod has been turned on Drogheda Community Garden in Dominic’s Park- a garden project led by Drogheda Homeless Aid and designed to “empower clients, build community and increase access to, and awareness of, fresh food” according to organiser Austin Campbell. Licenced by Louth County Council and supported by Tidy Towns the project is designed to enable clients of several local voluntary groups while creating an interesting and interactive feature for the whole community to enjoy. Gardening expertise and input has been kindly provided by the LMETB’s wonderful Geraldine O’ Toole and the brilliant Andru McShuartain of the National Ecology Centre Sonairte. The garden will be food producing with a dual focus on social and environmental sustainability with outbreaks of craic is sproai also expected. A combination of humble beginnings and high hopes mean the garden requires a level of volunteerism especially regarding the donation of useful materials; if you have gardening items you no longer need, or expertise you would like to lend, please contact Austin on austin.campbell@dha.ie or 041 98 34492
