BOYNE 5K GOES METRIC FOR 2018!

FOUR MILE RACE TO 5KM RUN IN MEMORY OF FORMER MEMBERS

- BY ALISON COMYN

The third annual Boyne AC 5K (Connor/Mallon Memorial Cup) will take place on Sunday 16th of September, with details announced at a launch in Scotch Hall shopping centre last Saturday.

The race, which is in memory of two former members Wille Connor and Harry Mallon, is a flat paced accurately measured road race (AAI), ideal for elite runners or families alike. Indeed, the club has introduced a 3km race this year too, so that the whole family can come along and join it.

“This year we have decided to change it from a Four Mile race to a 5K and also brought in the shorter run to allow for walkers, joggers or runners of ages and abilities to take part,” says organiser and member Austin Tiernan.

“” Those who want to make it a race can register online, and walkers and families can just turn up on the day.” The race starts at 12pm in the Donore Road Industrial Estate and makes it way past Knockbrack Close, and onto the Platin Road. The early bird entry price of €17.50 is available until the end of July, changing then to the usual price of €20. To find out more, or register on line, go to www.myrunresults.com events’ section.
