-

A convicted drug dealer has been given an opportunity to avoid a jail sentence after he pleaded guilty to two possession charges and one count of possession of drugs for sale or supply.

Eugene Lane (47), 43 Hillview, Drogheda, had his case adjourned to 14 December for a probation report and Judge Coughlan indicated a sentence of 240 hours community service in lieu of five months custody.

The defendant was found with cocaine valued €435 and cannabis worth €56 at St Finian’s Park on 23 February, 2017.

Sgt Ray Brady said Lane has four previous convictions including one for possession of drugs for sale or supply.

Solicitor Paddy Goodwin added his client has turned his life around. He has been working as a coach driver since May.

The judge noted Lane is a confirmed drug dealer.

An order was made for the destruction of the drugs and equipment and for the forfeiture of €2,633 cash seized at the time.
