Drogheda Independent

Nathaniel Hobson

-

LATER this year, there will be a commemoration of the sinking of the Leinster as it made its way from Dublin to Holyhead on October 10, 1918.

On board was Nathaniel James Fennell Hobson, born in Drogheda, and part of the The King’s (Liverpool) Regiment.

He was returning to action in France and was 37. He had been decorated for his services there.

He is remembered on the Hollybrook War Memorial. Any of his relations still around Drogheda?

?? ?? Brendan Matthews, the local historian, amazed me with this fact recently. The archway at the side of the Boyne is the oldest structure in the town, even before Laurence’s Gate, and led to a two storey house on this site many centuries ago.
