NEWTOWN BLUES

for WELL done to the U-14 Louth boys, including Blues player Conor McGuirk, that played away in Longford on Saturday, finishing with two great wins.

The U-16 boys made a great start to the championship on Wednesday night with a great 2-14 to 0-9 win against the Nicks.

A big turning point in the game was a great tackle by Alex Hanratty in the first half that sparked the Blues lads into gear, while the second half saw the team come together with some great scores from play.

Newtown Blues Minor boys capped off an impressive league campaign by beating the Joes on Friday night in Darver.

Missing their pivotal defender Cathal Broderick, the Blues got off to a slow start but found their feet in the second quarter and goals from Emmanuel Nyarko and Sean Maguire gave them a two-point advantage at half-time.

In the second half, Blues began to get on top in midfield and the game was over as a contest 10 minutes out. Their talisman and captain Alan Connor accepted the cup after final whistle.

Newtown Blues welcomed teams from Louth, Meath and Dublin to compete in an U-11 Inter-county Club Blitz on Saturday. Teams that took part were Cooley Kickhams, St Patrick’s Donabate, Seneschalstown, Fingal Ravens, Oliver Plunketts, St. Fechin’s and Kilmacud Crokes.

Although the weather did not help, it did not dampen the spirits
