DUNLEER GOLF SOCIETY

Thirty two members of the Dunleer Golf Society visited the Dundalk Golf Course on Saturday July 21st to compete for the Memorial Trophy, which is supported by Halpenny Golf, Drogheda. The Overall Prize was also provided by Halpenny Golf and presented to the winner Gary Reynolds 39pts at the presentati­on in the Dunleer Inn that evening.

It is worth a mention, that Mary Tiernan, a new member, won her first catergory prize with 32pts, having scored a “Hole in One” a few days earlier in Seapoint.

The other results were as follows:1st Cat 1 Robbie Byrne 35pts, 2nd Cat 1 Paul Flanagan 32pts, 3rd Cat 1 Michael Hughes 32pts, 1st Cat 2 Mary Tiernan 32pts,

2nd Cat 2 George Reynolds 30pts, 3rd Cat 2 Paul Mulcahy 29pts. Longest Drive Andrew Ward, Nearest the Pin Peter Grogan, 2’s Ray Moore x 2, Ciaran Reynolds, Gary Reynolds and Peter Grogan.

DUNLEER MEN’S SHED

The men’s shed always welcome new members to the Shed for activity and recreation at your ease. Men of any age who are available can join the Shed which could include unemployed, retired men. It opens each Tuesday morning at 10 am at the coach house to the back of the Market House so why not drop in anytime you are passing. Last week there was a Juvenile Competitio­n and also a Summer Evening Sweepstake Singles Competitio­n. It has been decided to cancel this year’s Club Singles Matchplay.

The next round of the Club Doubles Matchplay must be completed by August 12th. Members please check the Club noticeboar­d for all entry sheets. Congratula­tions to all Seapoint members who competed in the recent Leinster Under 16 Strokeplay held at Seapoint, especially to Sarah Cooney who finished 2nd in the girls section. Also congratula­tions go to Eoin Murphy who finished 2nd, to his brother Luke who finished 3rd and also Oisin Mulryne who finished 4th in the boys section. The winner was Evan Carry from Castletown who retained his title.

The annual Blessing of the Graves takes place on Sunday August 12th in both Parish Cemeteries. The Service of Blessing in Holy Cross Cemetery, Sheetland Road is at 3pm and in the Old Cemetery at 4pm. A collection will take place outside both Cemeteries on the day which goes towards upkeep and maintenanc­e. Please support.
