Cancer centre walkers hit the highway!

-

A group of hardy walkers are in the middle of a marathon walk from Galway to Drogheda to raise funds for the Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre.

The Coast to Coast Walkers are attempting to trek from Galway Bay at Clarinbridge to Baltray.

The trip started on Friday last, the group gathering at the centre to wave goodbye before Mullen’s Coaches got them to Ballinasloe where they began the walk to the ocean.

They’ll take a route through the heart of the country and end up back in Drogheda this weekend where they’ll dip their collective toes in the Irish Sea at Baltray on Sunday - just as the Fleadh starts.

The likes of Geraldine and Brian O’Reilly and the Breffni Couriers team have also helped out, amongst others.

All the walkers have done their own fundraising for the charity and that has included everything from coffee and cake days to a pub quiz in Dunleer.

The 250km walk will certainly test the walkers but they got a big boost recently when guest speakers David Carrie, founder of Team Carrie Dunleer and an athlete of over 40 years and David Ivers of AST Sports Therapy Arhboy came along to address the Coast to Coast walking group and give them some very valuable advice.
