Now a train station for north Drogheda

-

FERGUS O’Dowd TD has warmly welcomed the announcement that a new state of the art stadium will be constructed on the North side of Drogheda. This news has come on the back of an agreement between the FAI, Drogheda United and Louth County Council to provide Municipal playing pitches on the north side of Drogheda.

O’Dowd has said the news will further strengthen calls for a train station to be constructed on the north side of Drogheda and help with the campaign for Drogheda to achieve City Status.

‘On the back of the announcement I have written to Minister Ross to request a feasibility study be carried out on a Drogheda North station in light of the significant number of planning applications in the area and the stadium announcement. Accessible transport links are imperative for such developments to expand, this stadium has the capacity to become a 10,000 seater which would be a fantastic asset to the town and tie in with the town of Drogheda becoming a City.”

O’Dowd added “The most important aspect of this development is the fact that it will serve the local community in terms of access to state of the art pitches and facilities that will cater for all age groups and increase participation in the sport. Drogheda United has recently become a sleeping giant and this will potentially open the club to progressing to the next stage at national and European level.”
