Monica Duffner and the Black Forest

-

A story from 1968 - and it centres on Monica Duffner

‘Just recently returned home after an eighteen month sojourn in the Black Forest, Germany, is Miss Monica Duffner of St. Peter’s Place, Drogheda. Monica, who was studying the language in Germany has landed herself a very interesting new post, where, no doubt, her knowledge of continental languages and way of life will prove invaluable.

‘She has been appointed a hostess in Cork’s newest luxury hotel, the famed Blackrock Castle. Following a substantial conversion programme, this magnificent 17th century castle has carved a new niche for itself in the culinary world. The Castle, which was constructed in 1605 by the British Viceroy, Lord Mountjoy is steeped in history but though its future role is very different from its past, it maintains all of its splendour and Monica will find it a charming place in which to work.’
